Independence does not mean a lack of supervision. Children remain within the program’s supervision and safety expectations while receiving age-appropriate opportunities to make choices, manage belongings, follow routines, and take responsibility for shared materials.

When before-school care is available, the goal is a calm, organized beginning. Children may have time for breakfast or another arranged meal, quiet play, reading, conversation, and preparation for the school day.

After school, many children need a transition before beginning another structured task. Depending on the child, schedule, and day, the routine may include:

School Breaks and Summer Care

When scheduling and space permit, care may be available during school vacations, scheduled holidays, conference days, and periods when school is not in session. Longer days allow for a broader mix of reading, creative projects, games, outdoor recreation, problem-solving activities, music, quiet choices, and time with friends.
